In Memoriam

Tobi Colvin-Snyder

This information was obtained from the May 2009 edition of the Beth Chai Newsletter.

It is with much sadness that we report the death of longtime member Tobi Colvin-Snyder, who passed away last month after a sudden and brief illness. Our hearts go out to her young son Ian, who is now living with his uncle’s family in Clarkesville, Md. We also send our deepest sympathies to her father, her brother, and her entire extended family.

I’m told that Tobi, a vegetarian for ethical reasons since high school and a resident of College Park, Maryland, got her bachelors at U of M and then went onto grad school at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. She studied Integrated Pest Management (which makes careful and limited use of chemical controls - using other forms of pest control when possible).

She sadly became a widow in the 1980’s. Toby was also was a breast cancer survivor.

At the time of her death, she had been employed at the Environmental Protection Agency.

Her death, which occurred on April 18, 2009, was caused by Streptococcal Myonecrosis (which started as an infection in her arm in early-April).

I am so sorry to hear of Tobi's passing. She was such a sweet soul. I will always remember her smile and quiet ways.
