I was truely saddened to hear of Mary's passing December 7, 2008 after battling cancer. She and I were high school sweethearts in junior and senior year, and went to prom together. She was intelligent, funny, and beautiful all rolled into one. We lost touch a couple of years after graduation until some 8 years later and again some 10 years after that. We started trading holiday letters and emails. In her last months, she was fervantly campagning for Obama in Virginia and Ohio. She is survived by her sister Bonnie and husband Gary.

Mary and I had the greatest time in High School and were the best of friends. Mary, Suzanne Hopper, and I went to Senior Prom together with our dates and also went to Ocean City after graduation. I have thought of Mary often over the years and was shocked and saddened to learn from Jon Lipson, her High School Sweetheart and my dear friend from school, that she had passed away recently. I just always thought that there would be time and that we'd see each other again -- like at this upcoming Reunion. Mary was such a strong person and so full of life that it never occurred to me that she could be taken so young. I will always miss her and carry in my heart all of the good times we had and all of the wonderful memories. I recently read what she wrote in my Senior Yearbook, and I know she will always be a part of me and with me.

I too am shocked to hear of Mary's death. We grew up in the same neighborhood, and I remember riding the school bus with her for years, lots of early morning and afternoon conversations about Life and Boys...

We never saw each other again after high school. But she got back in touch maybe 8 years ago, and started a faithful holiday card correspondence -- through which I got to know her a bit as an adult (husband Gary, dog Muffin, world travels, passion for gourmet cooking, simple pleasures...)

I wondered why I didn't hear from her this year... didn't occur to me that I'd NEVER hear from her again!

I didn't stay in touch with many people after high school, and it wasn't until I started reading the reunion website that I saw Mary's name. I remember her well, and how sweet and friendly she always was. What a shame to have lost such a wonderful person so early.

Mary and I were both part of a group of students who went to France during spring break our senior year instead of the Daytona trip a lot of our classmates went on. We didn't know each other before the trip, but we spent almost every day together in France. Mary was an accomplished French student. I had the same teacher for Latin, Mrs. Purdy. I didn't speak a lick of French. I was EXTREMELY fortunate that Mary took me under her wing and translated for me as needed while we were there. Throughout the trip guys noticed her pretty blonde hair and introduced themselves to her. I remember one day we took a bus for over an hour to some noteworthy, historic (but apparently not particularly memorable) location and Mary and I were sitting in the back of the bus, in the window. I guess blonde hair is rare in France, because a car full of young guys spotted her and followed us all the way to where we were going just to meet her. One guy invited her to meet him under the Eiffel Tower at midnight, claiming he had keys to the place. :-) Mary was sweet and kind and without her that trip to France wouldn't have been nearly as much fun. I have several photos of France with her in them. She will be missed.
