Margie was one of my closest friends. In junior high, a group of us (Margie, Maureen Sheehan, Maria Bogen, Lilia Arbona) would walk home from White Oak. She lived all of maybe 3 blocks away and we would stop in front of her house on Downs Dr and talk before moving on. I really enjoyed her sarcastic and offbeat sense of humor. We lost touch after college. At the 30th reunion, I kept looking at the door, hoping she would walk in and flash that big smile of hers. I was glad to read the profile she posted afterward and catch up on what she had been up to.
Since finding out that she had passed away, I've reread the letters she wrote me from college and summers in between. In one, she wrote, "Goodbyes have a finality which I don't like. I like see you around or maybe a light goodbye. Though it's deluding, I like being able to think I can see the people I'm saying goodbye to anytime I want". See you around, Margie... (and Happy Birthday!)
